This really was a fantastic book. To be honest I like my romance with a good amount of steam, so if that's what your looking for you won't find it here. At least this is not what I call a steamy book. At around 90% you get a very short love scene, but due to everything Allie had been through I couldn't see this written any other way. Now let's get to my point about the almost 0 steam in this book. I couldn't put this book down. It really was beautifully written and worth every penny. I put off reading this book for a long time because it was more than I like to spend on an author I've never heard of. I love stories like this and they're hard to come by. Don't miss out on this amazing book.

Well Ms. Thomas has done it again, another great story. I love her books, the characters and the story. In her books you get everything adventure. drama, humor and a great love story that is sensual. I can't wait to read the next one.

Ok, so the plot is a bit over the top. The average woman is not going to relate to our heroine based on what she's been through - but she will relate to the feeling of being used and abused and betrayed and generally misunderstood by the world in general. And that's where our heroine shines. She is smart and strong and is not waiting for a man to rescue her - though she desperately needs it. Our hero is [typically] looking for anything but love. However, he finds Allie and can't seem to help himself. These two bond and even though they're unsure of life and where it will lead, they treasure that bond. They are true to it. The plot is above and beyond, the characters and larger than life, but who cares? It works. Now I'm going to read the rest of the series.
I love this story, as a standalone or as part of the Texas Brothers Trilogy. Wes, the oldest of the McClain brothers, rescues Allie. A young woman ran away from Indians, only to be rescued years later by the Rangers. They turn her over to a minister, who sexually abuses her and parades her before crowds as a savage.
Wes sees her caged one night and before he can stop himself, he's freed her and they are on the run. This is a fast paced story with lots of secondary characters. The style is remniscent of Thomas's later work. Without giving it away, Allie and Wes rescue each other.
